Stephen Guy
Stephen describes himself as firstly an eater, and then a chef. He learnt to cook professionally so he could bring the utter joy food gives him, to others.
It’s been said time and time again, food is the international language of the world. Wherever you go, whoever you are with food is something that can bring anyone together. It’s comfort, it’s joyful, it’s ingrained in every culture and the centrepiece of almost every celebration. To Stephen food is a gift, it’s a treasure, it’s something to learn and it’s something to share.
He describes his style of food as ‘Pretty Simple Food’ – it’s about simple cooking, using seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients, presented in a comforting, thoughtful and accessible way. His ethos is made up of 3 rules – make it delicious, make it generous, make it fun!
He really honed his skills and style of food as a Head Chef to Jamie Oliver, running his cookery schools in London and teaching people his simple, accessible style of food with influences from across the globe. More recently he has worked in product development, launching food products for just about all the major retailers in the UK, as well as brands such as Nando’s and KFC. This really gave him an insight into what people want to eat on a global scale!
More recently, his focus has moved towards our relationship with food, food and the environment, and how we can make better food choices to enable us to help the environment and support local businesses and economies, without compromising what food means to us as individuals.
